Anyone who has spent time on my website knows I love the ocean and exploring its depths. What you may not know is that I’m an official Scuba Girl, which means I’m a member of a diverse group of women (and a few of their men) who love to teach, travel and dive.
Two days ago, I posted a photo of my shiny red tank with a random thought on my Facebook page. It generated some likes, a couple comments, a share. All told, I reached over 500 people. Fairly typical for my author page.
This morning, I posted the same meme on Scuba Girls’ Facebook page and the response has been overwhelming. Within three hours, my photo was seen by over 31,000 people.
Diving allows us to visit a place we cannot survive without specialized equipment and training. We are guests in the ocean. But like traveling to a foreign land, we often find ourselves in the process.
Free of the restraints of gravity, I fly underwater. Diving encourages me to relax in a way that I’m unable to do topside. Time is more fluid. I am less stressed. Kinder. More creative.
And apparently, I am not alone.
Update: At last count, the meme engaged over 9,000 of the nearly 150,000 people it reached.
